Public Enemy SummerStage Show at Betsy Head Park Recap

Yesterday was my first SummerStage show of the 2016 season, featuring the legendary Public Enemy. I’ve seen a lot of acts live before, either as the featured artist or a guest act but I’ve never seen Public Enemy in any form. There were no other scheduled acts or openers on the bill and Chuck D and Flavor Flav did not disappoint.

After a few artist from Chuck D’s new record label performed, it was time for the main show a little after 8pm as Public Enemy hit the stage. The group ran through a number of hits such as "Night of The Living Baseheads" and "Bring The Noise” as expected. Flav looking as classic as ever even displayed his skills the guitar and the drums at certain points in the show, collaborating musically with the groups band who played with them on stage.

The crowd as usual was an interesting mix of people as I was in the front and center right by the press barricade. One person of note who doesn’t know how much he was pissing off people or didn’t care barged his way to the front mid show trying to get Flav’s attention and thought he would get pulled on stage with them, which was as comical as the fact he was also drinking an Olde English 40 ounce. Never a dull moment at a hip hop show.

Back to the show though which as a great treat for any fan, and as the show neared the end, fans screamed for “Fight the Power”. Before Public Enemy hit us with that though, Chuck D performed the “Shut ‘Em Down” remix which he said they don’t perform much at their shows which got the crowd excited. The go home song of course was “Fight the Power” and that was your show.

SummerStage started off great for me even though I missed the Just Blaze show as I’m looking forward to upcoming shows by Fat Joe and of course Rocksteady Anniversary in August. Check out my footage of the event, and the pics and follow me on Instagram so you see all the show pics from throughout the summer.
