Anime NYC 2018 Recap

This past weekend was the second year of Anime NYC at the Javits Center in New York City. Coming a month and a half after New York Comic Con, this con was focused more on the Anime side of things. There were no Hollywood actors, comic book focused panels or the likes to be found. What was here though was a great way to continue the fun experience of NYCC as the year winds down and we return once again to the hollowed halls of the Javits Center. Welcome to Anime NYC.

I've been to one other Anime convention when it was part of NYCC one year but this was my first full Anime show. There were the usual assortment of cosplayer's and panels, along with artist alley, but the show floor had a very different feel to me. Different popular Anime companies such as Viz, Crunchyroll and Funimation had large booths on the show floor and were either selling merchandise or promoting current and upcoming products. SonicBoomBox also had a booth with various well known cosplayers like Vampy Bit Me, Lua Stardust and Becka Noel on hand to provide pictures as well as selling merchandise of their own.

The fans at con's are always energetic and full of passion and Anime NYC was no different. Everyone was running around visiting booths, getting autographs, buying merchandise and of course taking pictures. As usual the cosplayers for me and I'm sure for many other's were the highlight of the show. The effort that goes into creating the perfect cosplay is a ton of work and every cosplayer is eager to show it off and it's never disappointing. The event organizers also organized several cosplay meet ups for people cosplaying as different characters from shows like Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia and games like Persona and Final Fantasy. It gave cosplayers a chance to group up and pose while photographers took pics and fans cheered on.

Con's seem like they come around several times a month and that's because they do but going to them is always a fun time. In any season, any weather, any time of year, it's good to be able to escape into a different world where you're surrounded by other like minded people. I enjoyed the second annual Anime NYC and will be attending again next year. It was great seeing friends, cosplayer's I've met over the years and immersing myself in the atmosphere for the weekend. As usual follow me on the social media stuff and my personal photography website where I will be adding a gallery of all the wonderful cosplays I saw this past weekend.
