Top Shelf 1988 featuring Big Daddy Kane, Masta Ace, Biz Markie, MC Lyte, Craig G and More

Rostrum Records releases the unreleased recordings "Top Shelf 1988."  The idea of Top Shelf 1998 came from a small studio spot which existed on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Top Shelf 1988 studio was a safe haven away from prying record execs and their minions, rappers can be more creative with their lyrics and sound. The studio had the presence of forward thinking producers stretching the creative boundaries of Hip-Hop production in 1988.

On the weekend of August 6th and 7th of 1988, a riot happened at Tompkins Square Park involving protestors and riot police.  After the melee, on August 8th, the producers returned to the studio to find most of their equipment were looted. The master recordings for the sessions were gone as well. Shortly thereafter Top shelf Studios closed its doors. For three decades the content of these recordings was never heard from again until now. Fans of old school hip hop can finally hear the unreleased tracks featuring cuts from Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Craig G, MC Lyte, Chubb Rock, Masta Ace, Jungle Brothers and many more. The Top Shelf recordings are available for streaming HERE.  Watch Big Daddy Kane Discuss What Makes Him Top Shelf.
