Brazzers is a word that many people are familiar with but not many people will admit to knowing what it is. This was no more evident than this past weekend at the Brazzers Backroom VHS popup show in lower Manhattan. As crowds stood outside waiting to enter this exhibit and check out the throwback video store aesthetic with Brazzers themed titles, just as many people walked by staring at the banner outside either going Brazzers?!? or Brazzers??? What’s that? The last response either being 100% honest or making it seem like they had no clue what it was despite probably having visited the site once, or twice, or 10 times in the past month……*cough* week. For the uninformed Brazzers is the leading porn company and this was their weekend popup shop exciting New York City.
The event had appearances from Brazzers contracts stars Phoenix Marie, Abella Danger, Nicolette Shea, Luna Star and Jordi. There were t-shirts, hats and posters of the various 80’s themed movies done up Brazzers style. All of the stars were around to take pictures with fans and sign autographs and even when it wasn't as busy inside, there was always a crowd. I attended both days and while Saturday was relatively more calm, people must have spread the word because when Sunday rolled around there was never a time when there wasn’t a line outside as the space was always at capacity. I ran into at least 8 people I had no idea were coming out to the event. The power of social media.
At this point Brazzers is as known a brand as anything else people may consider niche. This was the first of what I hope is many events like this is New York City. It excited the fans and from my time outside as much as inside the actual event, it also excited the people walking by, in cabs, and working in the area. In the past day I’ve gotten so many responses from people about how they missed the event or how they wish they had come out. Maybe next time as I can’t imagine this only happening once as successful as it appeared to be from my experience. Good show Brazzers, good show indeed.
